I Say... Ignore Function - Use 'Ignore' to hide another Registered Visitor's Posts

Using the 'Ignore' function in the forum

If you do not want to be bothered by someone, remember you can always use the 'Ignore' function (See your UserCP in the column on the left near the bottom) to cause the software to do 3 things:
1. Posts by the person you put on your 'Ignore' list will not show to you when you read a discussion thread in which that person has posted.

NOTE: If someone else 'Quotes' a post (or part of a post) by the person who is on your Ignore list, you WILL see the quoted text from the Ignored person's post in the post unless that person is also on your Ignore list. There is no way to manipulate quoted text as an object.

2. If the person on your Ignore list tries to email you though the software 'Blind' email system, it will not send the email.

3. If a person on you Ignore list tries to PM you, technically it will go through - But, you will not see the PM(s) Just like with posts by the person, they will be invisible to you.
NOTE: I have not gone through testing on this, but it is the way it is supposed to work.

Also see the Buddy and Ignore List FAQ.

The Basics:

What are the Buddy and Ignore lists?

The 'Buddy' list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum. By going to your "Open Buddy List" in "Quick Links" menu of the navbar, you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online and send them a private message. Adding people to your buddy list also allows you to send private messages to multiple forum members at the same time. You may add any member of the forums to your Buddy list by viewing their profile or by going to "Buddy / Ignore Lists" in your "User CP" (User Control Panel). Look in the 'sidebar' on the left for the link.

'Ignore' lists are used for those people whose posts you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, posts by individuals on your 'Ignore' list will be hidden when you read a discussion thread. You may add any member of the forums to your Ignore list by viewing their profile or by going to "Buddy / Ignore Lists" in your "User CP" (User Control Panel). Look in the 'sidebar' on the left for the link.

How does the Ignore feature work?

If you dislike posts by a particular member, you can choose not to view their posts (unless they are a moderator or forum admin, sorry!). Simply click on their user name in any thread. You'll see their profile page. Look for the Add USERNAME to Your Ignore List. Click on that, and you'll no longer see the person's actual posts in threads (and they won't know this, so you won't be upsetting them). You will still see that they've posted, but all that will be shown is a message, "This message is hidden because USERNAME is on your ignore list." Should you change your mind and want to see a particular post, use 'View Post' link you'll see associated with their post. You can also use the 'Remove user from ignore list' link that will also be shown within the thread or in your user control panel to lift the block across all posts.
