ISO 9001:2000 and Inspection - The concept of "inspection"

The concept of "inspection" isn´t any more in this version of the ISO; it was changed by
7.1 b) verification and validation activities, and the criteria for acceptability;
7.4.3.....verification of purchased product;
7.5.1 e) the implementation of monitoring activities;
7.5.5 Validation of processes;
8.2.3 Measurement and montoring processes;
8.2.4 Measurement and monitoring of product.

Are the inspection activities, as they were known in the past, changed/missed?

It was recently, in a thread here, pointed out to me that while I stated there is no specific reference to Special Processes in the 2000 DIS, there was verbiage that really does address special processes but does so by description. I think the same is the case here. Inspection and Test may not be specifically referred to but (according to the matrix with the Australian standard) I&T is addressed in 7.1 - Planning and Realization of Processes, 7.5.1 - Operations Control, 8.1 - Planning and 8.2.4 - Measurement and monitoring of product. It's all there, only the wording has changed.

It boils down to the fact that you have to determine what, if any, inspections and/or tests are appropriate and to implement them. There's some more leeway and (as I see it) a better way to address what I see as the intent. As you can see, to some degree it has drawn back from a production process centric requirement (receiving inspection, etc.) and now better addresses a larger range of business types.
