Re: Over 50,000 registered users at the Cove
To clarify: The 50K number is the number of people currently in the database who registered since around August 2001. Only about 9K are 'active', and very few of them are regular participants.
My wish for the future is for a lot of Detailed replies in posts, where people ask questions, to continue. We must ALL remember when we knew very little and needed help. I know many of us sometimes forget it's not 'simple', because we've done something so many times. Sometimes we tend to approach 'newbies' with a sense of "... Well, it's this simple... All you have to do is..." It's important to get as many specifics as possible and try to reply with answers which apply to the OP's (Original Poster's) specific situation / scenario, and if the OP doesn't give enough information to ask.
If anything, I ask everyone to never tell some to 'do their homework'. People come here doing their homework. In a word, Be Nice... If you're not interested in helping with Details, please don't post.
Please - Share your knowledge. Share your experiences.
And I hope that people who have document templates and/or examples to share, which will help so many others, will share them.
I ask the above so that we continue in the original 'Spirit' of the Elsmar Cove for years to come. This is a Long Term Goal, unlike so many web sites which have a Short Term Goal (usually tied to $ {or Euro, or whatever} revenue).
The Elsmar Cove has been about helping and sharing since I started the site in January 1996. May it continue to thrive, and may many more people who register become involved in discussion threads.
If someone helped you out here at some time, please help others.
Thanks!
Marc
PS. People who speak many different languages visit here. Many have very poor English skills. This shouldn't be of question considering how many English speakers are mono-lingual (including myself). Let us all consider language issues when people post.
