How to Implement PLM on Compliance Management of Electronics Parts
Dear friends,
now i am process of doing a project on implementation of PLM on material compliance management of electronics parts i.e the PLM system, what i am enhancing is to be satify the european regulation such as ROHS( restriction of hazardous substance). for that need to identify which are the parts are compliance and whihc are non-compliance, before going to the assembly process, i hope todays manufacturing industries are doing the compliance checking manually. inorder to facilitate them to reduce the cycle time for the checking the parts. i am in the process of enhancing the product lifeycycle system in the compliance management for the electronics parts.
whats my questions is,
i having the details of regulations details of certain exemptions on hazardous substance.
lead= 0.1% of weight.
cadmium=0.01% of weight.
mercury=0.1% of weight.
Hexalent chromium=0.1% of weight.
PBB=0.1% of weight.
PBDE =0.1% of weight.
how to compare these details with my generic electronic parts details going to produce.
then, to produce the report(compliance or non-compliance)
with regards,
Anand.N

Re: How to Implement PLM on Compliance Management of Electronics Parts
hello Anand,
Welcome to the cove.
The automotive industry uses a system called IMDS / www.mdsystem.com (international material data system). You can check out the website and read the public information about.
IMDS is a system where suppliers submit material information to their customer. These customers receive multiple material sheets (electronically). The received material sheets are rolled up into a new material sheet (using some form of Bill of Materials). This new material sheet is then submitted to the customer one level above. This continues until it reaches the final customer (in most cases a car manufacturer).
IMDS has build-in features to check received sheet against international material standards, such as www.gadsl.org.
The use of IMDS is free.
You could use the information from the IMDS system to develop your own.
There are companies that sell software to assist you. For example http://www.pacific-oaks.com/DMS.htm I am not affilicated and have no experience with this company.

Re: How to Implement PLM on Compliance Management of Electronics Parts
Anand,
You will have to contact the manufacturers of these generic components about the functional and other requirements that you are looking for.
I am not aware of a website or book where this information can be found.
