TS Requirements for Warehouses - We store customer owned shipping containers
My company is scheduled for TS certification starting next week and I ran into a potential issue during an internal audit. We currently have a warehouse where we are storing customer owned shipping containers. We do not have any employees that work in the warehouse, but this warehouse was not included in the scope with our CB. I know that the rules state that warehouses are to be audited as a support site, but this warehouse is only for storage of customer owned shipping containers for one major reason there is a township ordenance that states we can not store these containers outside of our building. My question is do I need to contact my CB and add this warehouse to the scope?
Thank you.

Re: TS Requirements for Warehouses
Not to argue with Randy's detailed answer, but......
A couple of questions.
1) If no employees work in the warehouse, then how do the containers move in or out? I would think by your employees. So, therefore, they do work in there. So, part of your operations include movement of containers in and out of the warehouse.
2) Are you responsible for any loss to the containers? I would think so.
As you see, I kinda answered the questions for you. If my answers are correct, then I would agree with Randy. If my answers are not correct, then give us more information.

Hello Roy,
Containers are "customer property", and the auditors may want to take a look at these.

Re: TS Requirements for Warehouses
db...this is a change of scope issue with a registrar for certification and if there are questions the best answer is to contact the registrar.

I agree, it does sound like that. But what if the company really had nothing to do with the warehouse, but own the building? I really can't envision that being the case, but want to consider the entire scenario before being definitive.

Our employees will go to the warehouse to retreive the containers as we require them, but noone is permently stationed there.
