Welcome Steven,

Could you give us further details so that fellow Covers can give you a better answer.

1. What type of coating/paint/finishing material are you referring to?
2. What is the substrate or base material this coating is applied to?
3. Any particular standard is being referred - example: ECCA, etc

Welcome Steven.

If this is about testing on textiles :
Years ago I have been involved in lab testing on textiles.
We got an " abrasion test " for solidity of colour.

The parts were tested by rubbing them under different condtions like you stipulated and were compared to a " grey scale " to check for colour change.

ASTM D4966 and ref docs :

D123 Terminology Relating to Textiles
D1776 Practice for Conditioning and Testing Textiles
D3884 Guide for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Rotary Platform, Double-Head Method)
D3885 Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Flexing and Abrasion Method)
D3886 Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Inflated Diaphragm Apparatus)
D4157 Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Oscillatory Cylinder Method)
D4158 Guide for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Uniform Abrasion)
Evaluation Procedure 1 Gray Scale for Color Change
Test Method93 Abrasion Resistance of Fabrics: Accelerator Method

Hope this helps,

Antoine
