Please Help! PMA (Parts Manufacturer Approval) FAA Submittal

Hi and thanks in advance for any help you may provide me. I was just hired by a new company to create a PMA program for them. The company is an FAA certified repair station working on APU’s. They would like me to set up a PMA program to manufacture parts for their in house repairs. I am not new to PMA and ran a small PMA house for the past 3 years. The problem is I am not that familiar with a new FAA PMA submittal package. The last place I worked had a few applications in but I was not involved in there development. I am up on the FIS and the FAA regs for the most part. I have read CFR, Part 21.303 and FAA order 8110.42C several times. My main problem is how to compile the data. We will be doing test and commutation for our submittals. What I would love to find is a form or something giving me the steps needed and maybe even how to find certain data. I worked for another company for a few days and they had a form to fill out but they scrapped there PMA program before I could really see what it consisted of. I know basically what to do but not really how to compile the data and find some of it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
James

Hello James! Welcome to The Cove Forums!

For the benefit of non-aerospace Fellow Covers, what are PMA, FIS, APU's?

Thanks.

Stijloor.

Default Re: PMA FAA Submittal

Randy beat me to it but I can add a bit to it.

PMA-Parts Manufacturing Approval is FAA design and manufacturing approval for replacement or modification part to the type certificated product.

FIS-Fabrication Inspection System is the quality and manufacturing system required by the FAA to produce a FAA approved PMA part.

APU-Auxiliary Power Unit is a device on a vehicle whose purpose is to provide energy for functions other than propulsion.

Thanks,
James

I don't know what to suggest beyond the content in 8110.42. The flow chart in Appendix A is good...........I think you are on the right track. You can contact your ACO for more specific guidance. My hunch is the content of your submittal will vary somewhat based on the ACO you are dealing with and the types of products you are seaking approval for.

Thanks for the info so far. I am meeting with my DER today and I am hopping he can give me some guidance on this issue. What I really am looking for is a basic guide as to how to put the PMA submittal package together. And I am not sure where to find the info on continued airworthiness on APU parts, any suggestions?

Thank you,
James
