Angry Show cause letter given as a result of a minor non-conformity raised by CB

Hi fellow covers,

Today I received a disturbing news from a old friend of mine. He told me that he was going to be given a show cause letter (or an official warning letter) by his superior after being issued a minor Non-conformity by a CB (this is his first NC).

I was completely .....

The worst part is that his not even a MR.

OK....I might be overacting....Just wish to gather some feedback on how you react to it?

I always believed that NC suppose to help organization to identify shortcoming and improve the current situation and this is happening......

Appreciate your comments on this?

thanks......

I doubt that anyone could really give you any good information on this without knowing both sides of the story. It seems counterproductive to discipline one person for a nonconformance found in an audit, but we don't know the history of the employee, the company or the problem found. For my own , I am glad that my company looks at nonconformances as a way to improve our systems (not that we've gotten loads of them), not a way to discipline workers.

As SteelMaiden stated, we don't know the whole story. This indeed could have been a problem that your friend told his management had been fixed. It could be just one of a series of misleading statements by your friend to his management and it finally reached the point where this was the final straw. Again, we just don't have enough information. I will say however that on the surface this is quite harsh.

Hi all,

Thanks for your shared comment which I found to be fair...

Anyway, what has happened to my friend was indeed a tragedy of using management system as the basis of continual improvement.

This friend of mine is an EMS committee member assigned to track the movement of scheduled waste (or hazardous waste inventory) This data was basically tracked, monitored and presented at its EMS committee each month without failed.

However, due to the downsizing and staff leaving last year, the data monitoring seems to be get out of hand. It was so lucky I guess, the data was picked up by the CB auditor and due to inconsistency of updating and sending out scheduled waste for pass few months last year. A minor NC was issued.

After the incident, the management did not voiced out any concerns after the closing meeting. Only recently, his superior approached him on issuing him the show cause letter on this particular incidents.

That's why I was so ....and hoping to get some comment or perhaps advice which I can probably tell him.....

Anyway, thanks a lot for your comment.

It seems that if constraints keep one from doing everything that management feels they should, one should probably report that to someone and not just skip doing the documentation. I'm sorry for what happened to your friend. I hope that he takes this lesson with him: Document! If you are given too much to do, document when it was given to you, and what you ad to give up. And: Let your management know when you are falling behind.

…well, this is probably an internal matter… you know, something like a “domestic case” incidents, which usually ungoverned by local law unless of course one of them took others "right"…

…and speaking of “rights”, I guess your friend will be given a privilege to defend himself (herself) of why giving this warning letter is unfair practice for having a minor non-conformance report… so, advise her to use that "right"…
