Re: MSA for fish oil capsules

Why is weight a destructive test?

If you have access to the AIAG MSA 3rd edition manual, there is a section on destructive MSA. I need more information to better assist you. There are several possibilities for destructive MSA that depend on the actual situation.

We'll wait for more input from the OP, but I'm guessing it's "destructive" in the sense that the capsules, once removed from a controlled production stream, are intact but no longer saleable.

Re: Fish Oil Capsule Weight MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)

You may be right. However, from an MSA perspective that is not destructive and the standard crossed method may still be used even if the capsules cannot be sold.

Fish Oil capsules will be categorised under Dietary supplements and you need to have a look at the pharmacopeial requirements. For eg, USP (United States Pharmacopeia) has a section <2091> on Weight Variation.

Pl ensure that those requirements are met first.

Re: Fish Oil Capsule Weight MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)

Sidit

Thank you for trying to help me with fish oil capsules MSA. It is my fault that I wasn't clear in explaining the process of weighing. This process consist in weighing first the entire capsule and than destroy it and merge in alcohol to remove the remaining fish oil. The difference between the weight of entire capsule and the shell weight is the fill weight.Fill weight has a tight tolerance and even we use an accurate scale we might be unaware that we have gone out of specifications.

Re: Fish Oil Capsule Weight MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)

See Measurement System Analysis and Destructive Testing. If consecutive samples are homogeneous in weight, a nested MSA study as described in the article should work for you.

Please Help! Re: Fish Oil Capsule Weight MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)

I read the MSA and destructive testing that you recommended
I am still uncertain what method to use, Crossed or Nested Anova
If I consider a batch all capsules produced by one row or further more by one pocket this will be a very large batch and we can consider this batch homogeneous, So I can use crossed Anova instead of Nested. I am not sure
