Six Sigma WEBRing

I'm trying to get people to join my Six Sigma WEBRing. It gives the newbiees to Six Sigma a place to go and sample all the Six Sigma ONLY places with only ONE link to each place. Otherwise they have to go through pages and pages of stuff on the search engines that they DO NOT want. It allows for SPAM, it is free, and you get to use the cool Six Sigma graphic that I made!!! (GIRIN) What more could you want??? This WEBRing is for all interested in Six Sigma Concepts and Resources. Interest include Achieving 6 Sigma, Manufacturing Cycle Management, SPC, Understanding +/- 6 Sigma or Design For Manufacturability. The html must appear on your main page, (index.html or default.htm, etc.) or on your Six Sigma page.

So if you have a site that has something about Six Sigma, please join!! I have already had 'Lots-O-People' looking at the list to get Six Sigma Information.

Has anyone checked the WebRing out?

I couldn't find the Six Sigma webring. But i see that the original post is quite an old one. (July 2000)

WebRing is no longer a part of the Yahoo! network. All the webrings on yahoo are being moved to a new server. May be if Jim Winnings can provide the correct URL,we can check out.

I am a member of Howard Atkins' Quality Assurance Webring and it was recently migrated to the new server.

I also got a 403 (forbidden).

I just visited the main site. It is online, but there is nothing on it about a webring. Perhaps Jim can clear this up. I might be interested in joining, but not if visitors cannot get to the ring page!

I think posters know my feelings on 6 sigma, so my answer is no. No join, no read!

Al,

I think your side is growing. More and more folks are being turned off by 6-sigma. I, however, do see some real value in it. There is a small group of us that see the six-sigma, DMAIC as a superior disciplined problem solving tool to 8-D. It is, however, just a tool. Forget the black belts, forget the hype, and forget the political flash. DMIAC is a good guide in determining root cause(s) and placing effective corrective actions in place. Unfortunately, way too much emphasis is placed on the political and the “black belt”.

I hear Motorola is having some difficulty because the place too much emphasis on the political. Rumor has it that managers could lose their jobs if they cannot meet 6-sigma quantity goals. Six-sigma has created its own layers of bureaucracy. They have built a monster they can’t feed.

As with all tools, there are some precautions. Use the right tool at the right time for the right purpose. You don’t need a Rube Goldberg device to drive a nail. But it is hard to weld to pieces of steel together with a screwdriver.

Well as a staunch TQM man I see 6 sigma as just another fad with a new title and agree with one of Marc's comments on another thread about MTBF (mean time between fads). So why is DMAIC better than 8D they are both expansions of Demings PDCA? I have ben using PDCA and 8D for nearly 15 years and have had great success. It will take a lot of convincing that DMAIC is better or even particularly different.

Kevin Mader and I have had many emails between us regarding 6 sigma and are mostly in agreement. 6 sigma is a goal, nothing else, how you achieve that goal is by having a good Quality Management System. TQM is one of the best cultures and set of tools to get there, not the only one, but in my humble opinion one of the best.

I am open for anyone to try and convince me differently.

Even People who claim to be 6 sigma are not as Motorola have proved over long periods of time processes means will vary by 1.5 sigma, so only +/-4.5 sigma is achievable long term.

Let's not pull the wool over each others eyes and work on good management systems and continuous improvement by all the tools that are at our disposal.

I feel better for that!!!
