Preventive Action for The Cove - 'Post' Button Placement
I would like to suggest that, if possible, the "edit" and "quote" buttons, at the bottom of each post to be moved away from each other. Twice now, I pressed the edit button by mistake, when quoting a post. I would suggest moving the "edit" button. All the way to the right, closer to the "thanks" button.

Good point Sidney. It has happened to me a couple of times.

Separating the buttons farther apart prevents "product" mix!

Re: Preventive action for The Cove
Hmmmm... Thread Moved to the 'Public' forum so we can get a larger feedback group.
It's a template so it technically can be changed. But... If you missed the quote button and hit the edit button by mistake, what is to keep you from hitting the button on either side of it by mistake no matter where it's located? They're pretty big buttons, and they're different colors.
I've hi-lighted the text of the quote button in red. Does that help distinguish it from the Edit button?

I guess you mean public forum. I avoid as much as possible the pubic forums.....
PS. I believe that the general public does not see the button in other people's messages. So, it might confuse them. That is why I had it in the Moderator's forum.

Re: Preventive action for The Cove
I have a hunch the "style" page which dictates location of the buttons is the same for moderators and the non-moderator whose post is the subject of a potential edit or quote. (What I mean is - the edit button only appears for a regular Cove member on his own posts, whereas moderators view their own posts and other members' posts identically.)
I think I ran into the "click wrong button" thing once or twice in my first month or so of being a moderator, but even then, I recognized something different about the resulting page view and did not proceed to add material to someone else's post by mistake. The danger, of course, is <SNIPPING> parts of the original post as you might do if your intent was to use only a portion of the original post in the quote.
I guess we need a readout from Marc on how the style page is set up and whether it is a big deal to relocate the edit button for EVERYONE (moderator and regular member alike.)

Yeah - I caught it after I posted...

They do see it on their posts for about 2 weeks during the 'editing allowed' period, so while it's more of an issue to moderators who see the button on every post, they are still affected.

Correct. Relocating a button relocates it for everyone. Like I say, it's a template which can be edited, but the current setup is so vBulletin 'standard' (not to mention this has been the arrangement of the buttons for years), changing the arrangement is something I hesitate to do.
In general, I have tried to use colors and such for people to 'target' their eyes (and cursor) on, and there is some logic to the current button placement. The 'Thanks' button is a mod which uses 'hooks' in templates, so unless I want to screw with some of the core hook locations (which can have significant unexpected results when a mod is looking for a hook for it to be called and it's not in the expected place), it has to stay where it is.

The red does stand out better, but what if a person is color blind?
