Please Help! How to bring in "Global Mindset" in employees?

Folks,

Can anyone help me please, in establishing the "Global Mindset" in the minds of the employees.
How to bring awareness in terms of "Global Mindset"?
How to make them think globally?
Hope my question is crisp & clear and inline with the title.
Hope the title of the thread as well is appropriate.

I did try to search this forum, but in vain.
Any comments & suggestions please.

Thanks

In the first place, why think "Global" ?

What are you expecting when you use the term "Global Mindset" ?

Hi quality.shesha,

Yes, I was asking the questions to you

First, why think "Global" and

Secondly, what are your expectations from the term, "Global Mindset" - is it that the employees should be aware of the things happening in other countries like US, Europe, China, Australia etc ?

Or is it that your company has been acquired by a multinational organization

Or ......

Just some questions to understand your requirements

We are expanding our operations all over the world... and we are acquiring companies and we are not acquired by anyone....
We want to be at par with our competitors all over the world.
Hope the information suffices.

First, I would ask if your employees are firmly entrenched in a "teamwork" sort of mentality? Being part of something, taking ownership, responsibility and being given the authority to make things happen lays the groundwork for anything. I'm not sure what a "global mindset" is. How does it differ from an enthusiastic, team based mindset? If you can define it, you can foster it. If you cannot define what it is, you cannot lead the way for anyone else.

That being said, imho, the best way to get others to buy in is to lead by example, not just you, but your managers, supervisors, anyone that is seen as a leadership role. Talk to employees, share information, communicate and assess their knowledge on the things you feel are important. Then, after you've figured out where you are lacking, you can start to fill in the gaps, either through more communication, formal training, whatever will work for your company.

While we are still far from perfect, we have instilled a global philosophy by focusing on areas such as the following...

Processes

We have standardized the process flow, both at the macroprocess level and lower. Not down to the task level (example - how to physically receive something in the warehouse), but down to the generic receiving level (example - all receipts are to be entered into the computer system within 1 business day). By standardizing our processes and terminology, this has enabled us to "speak the same language" at our sites, no matter their geographic location - North America, South America, Asia, Europe.

Key Performance Indicators

We have attempted to standardize our Key Performance Indicators for our processes. This means that we measure the same metrics in the same manner at all sites, no matter their location.

Assessments

I work for an organization that developed criteria for global assessments that are used on our processes. All processes are being assessed or will be assessed in the near future. What this means is that when a process is assessed at a site, the exact same criteria is looked at for every site. Our criteria is also more detailed and specific than an ISO-standard, which makes for more consistent findings.

*** *** ***

One thing to keep in mind is that not everyone needs to think globally. Does an operator need to know how someone in another country does the same job? Not necessarily.

There are also other considerations such as culture, legal and regulatory requirements and simple day-to-day needs of running a site...a globalized way of thinking should also recognize that somethings do not need to be performed in the same manner around the world.

RCBeyette gave a good outline of the 'how', and I'd like to throw in a little bit about the 'why', targeted more towards supervisors and management (even if you are working at Tata).

Here's an excellent video which speaks about 'Globality'
