I know (thru my work) the son of the family who started Revell. Very cool guy.
Did you see the article in 'Car' magazine (a couple of months back) about the founder of the Tamiya RC model company? Those models are awesome!

Thumbs up Re: Restarting an old hobby - and Scale Modelers among us?

I too made kits - Airfix cars and planes mainly - when I was (a lot) younger and had time (BK = before kids) I have still to finish three models - a Revell Ford Anglia 'gasser', and two of those fabulous Heller (European) kits, a '70's Honda CB 750 and a Alpine/Renault (that's pronounced 'Alpeen') rally car.

Between my brother and I we share a 'Triang' (the original Hornby competitor and precursor to the modern company) model railway, with items dating back to the (very) early '50's.

Currently, my collection consists of an increasing number of 'Vanguards', which are similar to the Corgi 'toy' models, popular in the UK from the 50's to the 70's. They are far better made and detailed and, although not modelling as you folks practice, they represent a bit a bit of deja vue, from my past!

Re: Restarting an old hobby - and Scale Modelers among us?

I was once a pretty serious modeler, air brushing, plastic filler, the whole mess. My likes were WW2 aircraft of all Theaters and Armor like you.

I went from modeling to building and flying balsa and paper planes that mainly used either .020 or 0.045 engines that were line controlled.

Modeling is soothing and can help reduce stress levels.

You folks are getting serious! I miss my chilhood too and the good times assembling planes with rubber propellors. It is sad to realize we are getting old!

Once in a while I use the excuse that I am buying toys for my kids, but I must admit that deep in my hart there is a trace of nostalgia

oh, no doubt... I justified the start-up costs (here I go sounding like an engineer) to my wife by saying I'm influencing my son... bought him a couple Snap-Tite kits that we did together too. Maybe when my daughter is old enough she'll take an interest too.

Even the Snap-Tite kits today are something else - they're completely painted and decaled.

I've also used him as an excuse to get some model rockets... and sucked some friends from the fathers' club in my kids' school into it too.

Firecrackers took out most of my boats as they floated on a nearby pond.

As far as Armor... I'm ordering this kit for myself for my b-day:

look at the detail on these!
Wow!! 1:35 scale? It must be huge! How much does this kit cost?
