Toolbar Symbols in Excel, GD&T
Does anyone know how to create or set up a toolbar in Excel that has GD&T symbols? For example, in Microsoft Word, you can insert symbols and create your own shortcuts/macros to put them into tables/cells. However, in Excel you cannot unless (from my understanding) you create a toolbar (which may be the simplest way). My intention is to create an inspection report in Excel with quick and easy keystrokes or with a click of the mouse to insert a GD&T symbol. Thanks!

Great post Nikki,
I hope someone has the answer because I've never been able to create it.

Hi Sorin,
What's so funny? In word I was able to create my own shortcut keys from symbols used in different fonts. Do you know of a way to do that in excel without purchasing the $59. deal?

Sorry...hope you did not think I was derogatory or offensive...it struck me as funny that a search using Google with the terms used for the title in this thread sorted as 1st result a thread on elsmar.
And what is more in that thread someone posted a complete font...maybe it was funny thing only for me....
Back to original request...you can use the hidden font editor that came with Windows to do your own fonts...
In windows:
Start - Run - eudcedit
Once again....mea culpa...

Re: Toolbar Symbols in Excel, GD&T
Other fonts for SPC and GD&T can be found at the Kanecal web site.
After installing these or other True Type Fonts, they can be inserted into your documents and will appear as normal on the computer which has the font(s) installed. Most programs DO NOT embed the font into their file and, therefore, the new font characters will be displayed as the ASCI character of the previous font unless the same font type is installed on the viewer’s computer.
One program which embeds TTFs is Microsoft Word, but the embedding feature must be turned on through the Tools-Options menu. And, unfortunately, Microsoft Excel does NOT embed TTFs – so the creator’s and view’s computer must have the same fonts installed.
It is unfortunate that there is not sufficient usage of these types of fonts for Microsoft to add a SPC and a GD&T font to their install list (cost issue). What is worse is that ASQ or AIAG have not created these types of fonts and posted them on their websites for free distribution even though this issue has been raised to the leadership many times.
This ability to easily communicate information to others through the use of these tools has slowed the progress of data visualization to others.
