Can someone please give me an example of what Configuration Management is and is it a AS or ISO 9001:2008 requirement?

Foregoing posts have given ample on the subject, I am adding a brief here.
'Configuration Management' is the management and tracking of articles.
Important elements of CM are:
Version control
Articles created during a project, must be easily found and kept in a safe store. Besides, all members of the team must have easy accessability to the most current as well as old versions. History-cards maintained for each article, allows the team members to understand why decisions were made at the time of change.
Change Management
Once the articles are approved and base lined, any further changes have to go through the change management, which allows the team members to maintain control over the entire project. Customer's request for any change is also of importance here.
Reporting
Report on the articles in safe store permits the Project Managers to assess the status of the project, determine vulnerable areas, and ensure that no unauthorised changes are being made at any stage.
Here is
'Glossary of terms used in CM' and
"Frquently Asked Questions" on the subject.
