Please Help! ISO Certification - Implication of excluding products, subsidiary & branch?

Dear Friends

The Insurance company that i am working with, is an ISO certified company, where all its products, branches and subsidiaries are covered under the ISO 9001:2000 certification under SGS.

Recently, the top management have shown their intention to exclude the following from the certification during the next surveillance/recertification audit:
1. 2 products
2. 1 subsidiary
3. One of its Insurance branches

Kindly state:
1. How will i have to proceed with the above exclusion from the Group?
2. What are the implications on our overall QMS?

The above is submitted for your kind info and valuable comments

thanks

Regards

Viraj

Re: ISO Certification - Implication of excluding products, subsidiary & branch?

1st....You are not ISO certified, the ISO certifies nothing. Your management system is certified to an ISO standard and to claim otherwise is false.

2nd...Your products are not certified either just the system that is managing the processes for their manufacture or realization is certified.

3rd.....The best answer for your subsidiary and insurance branch rests with your certification body. Is there a problem with asking them?

You're going to get lots of answers, but you would best be served by asking those that actually provide you with the certification services.

If the products you want to exclude fall under A defined scope you have to delete the applicable scope and not products.
You can exclude your subsidiaries and branches If they carry a differant name and site location by ammending your Quality manuals.
