Please Help! Project Quality Management and FMEA applied to Project Management

Hello! fellow forum users,
I'm researching about tools and techniques of quality applied into the world of Project Management, in specific about the FMEA. I've found the basic methodology, history and background on the internet, but in the field of Project Management it's a different history.... If anyone masters this subject I'd be glad if would bring information about FMEA applied to Project Management specifically on:

- Applications
- Importance
- Relationship with ISO and other standardization groups

Thanks in advance
Dalboz

Re: Project Quality Management and FMEA applied to Project Management

I do not have any examples of applying FMEA to Project Management but I do have some suggestions. First, define what is the 'product' and what is the 'process' in terms of Project management. Develop your Process Flow Diagram to identify the 'process' steps and what happens to the 'product' at each step. Once you achieve this then follow the FMEA guidelines and consider the potential failure modes for your newly defined 'product' and 'process'. Hope this helps a little. Please keep us posted as this seems like an intriguing project. I'm very curious how you define the 'product' and the 'process' ...

Re: Project Quality Management and FMEA applied to Project Management

I have got the same problem. I have to manage quite complex project, but I do not have enough experience with FMEa and how to perform my work in compliance with ISO.
Any suggestions or example?

Many thanks to everyone

Re: Project Quality Management and FMEA applied to Project Management

I´ve been started my studies on the field of project management right now, and I reading about BS 6079-1:2002 - Guide to project management, BS 6079-2:2000 - Vocabulary and BS 6079-3:2000 - Guide to the management of business related project risk, believe it will be able to work in compliance with ISO. What do you think about it? Please let know!!

Ciao, Martin.
I suggest that you purchase a copy of the FMEA manual. I am not sure who sells it in Italy (ANFIA maybe) but you can find from IATF web site. The manual is a good guide and you can learn a lot from it.

This depends on what ISO standard you are refering to and what type of work we are talking about. Please elaborate so we can provide some suggestions and ideas if possible.

Re: Project Quality Management and FMEA applied to Project Management

Many thanks, your link is very usefull.

I would be compliant with ISO 13485, from a point of view of the project process, I have to do something like a progect FMEA, haven't I?

ISO 13485 requires that Risk Assessment is performed in accordance with clause 7.1. FMEA is one form of risk assessment. I also suggest that you get a copy of ISO 14971 for more guidance to risk assessment (see ISO 13485 Clause 7.1 Note 3). Buona fortuna!

It does not hurt to also look at ISO 14971 for additional guidance on Risk management. I am not familiar with the BS guidelines so I have no idea how they compare to ISO 14971 or anything else. Sorry I cannot help more!
