What are the Contents of a Typical Characteristics Matrix?

1: Dimension number relates to the numbering scheme used to identify characteristics on a blueprint. Typically you start at the top left of the print and number each dimension in aclockwise manner until all characteristics are identified.
2: Description is the description of the characteristic. Say your first characteristic on the print is a diameter that you labelled #1, the descriiption would be "diameter". The relationship column identifies the relationship between the characteristic and other required documents. See Below:
Relationship "X" = The characteristic is included on the control plan.
Relationship "R" = The characteristic is for received material or parts that show on the process flow chart but not the control plan.
Relationship "P" = "Process" characteristics (as opposed to "Product" characteristics) that only appear on the control plan.
There are other relationships with different definitions.
3: Operation numbers are used to identify the consecutive steps in a process. This is some what open but here is an example:
Op 050 = Receiving
Op 100 = Storage of raw material
Op 200 = Move to Op 300
Op 300 = Load machine
Op 400 = Grind
Op 500 = Inspect
Op 600 = Move to Op 700
Op 700 = Polish
Etc...........
The numbering system is really up to you as long as it is logical.
