Please Help! History - Evolution of quality in the automotive industry

Has anyone got any good free literature on the evolution of quality in the automotive industry - from say the end of WWII to date ?

I think you'll have to get someone to give you an oral history. I don't recall ever seeing anything printed / on the 'net which specifically addresses the history of quality in the automotive arena. I could be wrong...

I have a few things from my Subsafe QAI school in the Navy. It goes back to the Thresher and Scorpion disasters (1960s) if that will help fill in some.
