Please Help! Tracking Production Scheduling

Is there a system to track production throughout the plant to ensure shipments are going to go out on time? We are in the process of implementing Lean Manufacturing but seem to have trouble flagging a late shipment.

ERP systems are computerized scheduling and tracking systems. Barcoded order documents or manual entry by personnel at each stage of the process allows seeing updates at any time if it is a real-time system (as opposed to batch).

Could be as simple as a lot traveler to sophisticated ones using RFID chips which automatically updates the system as it moves along the line.

Here is some information...

There are many ways to accomplish what you are asking for (as was stated earlier). It really depends on the size of the facilities, company, budget etc.

This is an example of how one product uses RFID technology for use in the textile/garment industry over here. Not an endorsement nor am I connected to them.

Re: Tracking Production Scheduling

Out of curiosity how do you schedule and track production today? It could be as easy a using a board to track orders scheduled to go out and then highlighting orders that ship after their expected ship date. Depending upon your setup you may be able to have a work ticket that clearly identifies expected ship date follow the job.

I tend to try to use simple solutions first and then move on to those that may require capital expenditures if the simple fix does not work.

Re: Tracking Production Scheduling

We use a simple Excel sheet system I created. Each part has an excel sheet. In the sheet is has due date and shipped date. When our shipper puts in a date that is past it's due date it tells another excel sheet that there is a late part. This system is simple, free, and works pretty well for us.
