Please Help! Launch an Order (Work Order or Project) - Design and Development - Definitions

Good morning.
I am working on a translation for an Italian Quality Manual.
Now in the design and development section.

The company states that the purpose of the document is basically to explain how they plan, process, and distribute documents required for handling (managing) and "launching" an order (work order/project).

In Italian they say "lancio della commessa" -- literally to "launch an order"

My question is this:
In the ISO Quality world do companies "launch orders" or perhaps "initiate an order" "release order" "process order" ...... basically it should be something like the whole shebang to get the order rolling.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: to "launch" an order

Welcome to the Cove.

I am not a linguist but in general business usage and in the context of projects, we launch, initiate or commence on a new project upon receiving a work order (letter of award). We 'gave' people orders for various raw materials but before that you will need to 'initiate' it (paper work) and when the suppliers received it, they will have to 'process' your order.

Re: Launch an Order (Work Order or Project) - Design and Development - Definitions

I just found a small explanation of what " lancio della commessa" means in this document:
This is quite a literal translation here:

"In this document, "lancio di commessa" mean the preparation and distribution activities of documents needed for product realization and preparation of materials, semi-finished goods, products or services required.

Is there one or two words that sums up "document preparation and distribution so that the product can be made, and everything needed to make it can be prepared"
