Re: Did any of you use these sticks and rocks?
Do you also have a slide rule?

While doing research on flowcharts for a style guide I'm wrting, I happened upon an image of the "tools" used to make flowcharts in the past.
I'll admit, I'm young (26) but I just can't imagine someone using this, especially today.
It's not a joke but it certainly is funny for those of us that grew up with computers. Visio, you're my best friend now.

Re: Did any of you use these sticks and rocks?
Anybody know where I can get some carbon paper??
Remember the first time you put it in backwards and typed a whole page (with a typewriter) double sided and backwards. Felt pretty stupid didn't you?
It won't be long before people will wonder what "cc" stands for on an email.

Yeah, who would have thought that one of these was used in the Apollo moon landings!
I knew how to use one once upon a time, I am not sure that I could now

Don't you think that it's interesting that we went to the moon using slide rules and we haven't been back since we stopped?

My t-square, board, pens, slide rule, etc. are in a box in the garage... I might have to get them out for my girlfriends son when he gets old enough. There is something about drawing with ink and graphite, it can teach a lot of lessons.

I still keep my slide rule sitting on my desk. I use it too. Mostly to get the "young" engineers to ask "What the H--L is that?".

Well, no not today, but I used to have one of those and several others as well. I probably still do, but I have no idea about where. Probably stashed some old where along with slide rule, protractors, compasses and all that stuff.

How long? You've got to be joking: They already do.

Now, you've done it... Now I have to search the attic to see if I can find my slide rule. I do have something similarly intriguing, but slightly less outdated, though: My trusty old HP11C calculator (still in everyday use): I love the Reverse Polish notation but it drives the "kids" bonkers.

Re: Did any of you use these sticks and rocks?
Sliderules, T-square, protractor, straight edge, lettering guide, French curve, compasses, Rapidograph pens and other drafting tools are now sought after by collectors. The plastic drawing templates were cheap and somewhat disposable so they have become collectable.
I posted one other time about my slide rule and manual having a value of around $300.
