Question Plaster of Paris Medical Immobilization Cast - International Standards?

Hello all,

Is there an international standard for medical cast (plaster of paris-for immobilization of body parts)

ISO, BS, ASTM ? Any other? - Please send me exact numbers and titles of valid editions.

Also is there a standard test method/s for testing quality of medical cast?

It would be nice also if somebody wants to share they internal method/s.
Thank you all in advance ,

Ana

Re: medical cast

I can't find much; however:-

Quote:
EN 13279 European Construction Products Directive
Plasters for fibrous plasterwork EN 13279 – 1 (Category C1)
Plasters / binders for construction applications (Category A)

E516 – European Union food additive regulation
gypsum for use as a ‘Food additive’
gypsum for use as a ‘Food processing aid’.

Found these:

BS 2574-2:1994: Lower limb orthoses. Specification for hip, knee and ankle joints for lower limb orthoses

Re: Plaster of Paris Medical Immobilization Cast - International Standards?

Is there any BS standard directly for medical cast;(plaster of paris) for immobilization of limbs or similar?

In the examples I have given there is no direct refrence to 'plaster of paris' or gypsum in the abstracts or discriptors on the BSI site. Other than what Pads has indicated, the only other BS reference to gypsum products appears to be dental (BS EN ISO 6873:2000: Dental gypsum products).

Additional:

Not very observant of me - Pads had referenced the dental stuff! I have found a couple of other references though, but it is back to contructional standards, so don't break a leg (sorry!).

ASTM Standards

C59/C59M Specification for Gypsum Casting Plaster and Gypsum Molding Plaster
C472 Test Methods for Physical Testing of Gypsum, Gypsum Plasters and Gypsum Concrete
