PPAP Sample Requirement - Using Product which has been Re-Worked
Hello,
When submitting product sample to customer for PPAP is there a requirement which prevents using product which has been re-worked to achieve dimensional and profile compliance? Currently have some aluminum flat bar that is out of flatness tolerance. It can be reworked to achieve tolerance etc., but would samples be permissible for a PPAP?
Thanks,
Alextusions

Welcome to the Cove.
PPAP samples are presumed to be from the "significant production run" and be representative of the regular production process. It's not clear whether the material you refer to is raw stock or post-production. If you add a flatten-if-necessary operation to your routing and APQP documents, use of the material would be permissible.

Re: PPAP Sample Requirement - Using Product which has been Re-Worked
In section 3, heading 3.1 - Customer Notification, Examples of Changes Requiring Notification it states "Use of other construction or material than was used in the previously approved part or product." If you are not going to use the same lot of material for production that you used for your PPAP, you have to notify your customer of the change.

Jim, don't the PPAP samples (ours was always 300) have to be of the same material as the future production run? I may have been misinformed on this?

The bit you quoted from the PPAP manual refers to parts made after PPAP approval. The OP has apparently not submitted his PPAP yet, because he's asking about whether or not he should submit PPAP samples that have been reworked.
The PPAP "significant production run" default quantity is 300 pieces, but the sample quantity (samples submitted to the customer along with the PPAP documentation) is usually less than that.
