I am sure if he applied himself he would be a fine auditor. He needs to look at the whole picture rather than taking a class and knowing it all. His comments kind of remind me of my boss who once said "I sat next to and FDA Inspector at a confrence one day, so there isn't anything I don't know about FDA requirements", at first i thought he was joking buthe was/is dead serious to this day.

Now why would I think that?

The level of understanding you possess is evident in the quality of the material you post. You have nothing to sweat and plenty to offer, even if the offering is a question.

Hi, y'all

The closest I have seen, in my limited experience, to an auditor overlooking a nonconformance was reducing a major to a minor because we had already uncovered the problem and had been working on it. In fact, we have had the usual problems of an auditor calling something a nonconformance when it wasn't, though that hasn't happened in a good while. What I am trying to say is that the auditors I have worked with tend to very slightly err on the side of giving a nonconformance, lest a problem be overlooked.

In other words, if a company is looking to get its auditor money's worth, it should have no problem.

I hope they have a ton of problems finding a "have a check, get a cert" auditor, if that is what they want!!!

Sorry for misleading everyone, but my reason for stating that I went to a lead auditor course was not to give credentials ( i have none according to Randy), but rather indicate when and where my questions about ISO compliance and certification originated. I'm really new to ISO 9001 system management ( it shows), but so are most of the people responsible for implementing it. No one knows it all, except Randy, he obviously has figured out world hunger. I took the course for information only, no intention on becoming a 3rd party auditor. My question is this, has an accredited registrar ever lost, or even come close to losing it's accreditation? Get it now? One bad apple scenario.
The true value of a forum such as this is experience sharing. Some of you more experienced guys need to lighten up or you are going to shut the less experienced people (like me) down. Then you will be surrounded with a bunch of know it alls arguing over how to properly screw in a light bulb.
Randy- good analysis, GS-11, Department of Homeland Security, we build ships, ISO 9001:2000 certified in Jan, I still don't know sh*t, but not a wheenie, I worked weapons first. But hey, how do you expect me to make GS-12?! Let's kiss and make up! My sister married a grunt marine!

Freddie,

Don't get discouraged. Not everyone feels that way. I been wrasslin with the experts since joining the Cove. We all started out as "Newbees". I have to continously remind myself that I can't hold a candle to these "experts". Randy means well and his heart is in the right place. You just have to find it! Stay involved and don't let anybody make you think that you or anyone doesn't measure up. It's may just be a matter of the type of measuring stick used in the hands of those "experienced" professionals.

There is never an intention to shut someone down.

As for your question about registrars losing accreditation....you betcha!! Just go to the RAB page for both QMS and EMS Registrars and check them out.

As for my analysis of GS level, it comes from 3+ decades of personal experince in/with DoD personnel.

As for world hunger....it's a natural state that exists when population exceeds production capacity and can only be artificially and temporarily resolved.

You've come to the best place on the internet for information and assistance, remember to thank Marc for it.

Oh boy, after what I saw in Newport News and Charleston they need someone to straighten things out!!!

I was once a QAI for subsafe systems in another life. There was more structure and standardization there than they will ever be able to achieve with ISO/QS IMO. I also worked on the Polaris/Posiedon and C-4 backfit missiles at POMFLANT. Do you have any openings???? I could use a location change and pay raise

We do this from time to time and get admonished for getting off track and deviating from the threads intention!

To be honest Fred, the GS people I worked with from Lockheed, Northrup, etc. always looked down their noses at the military personnel. It seemed that we were just nosey p1ss ants wanting to go through purses and lousing up ones day. Sure there were probably some that deserved it, but your 1 bad apple saying applies. POMFLANT received a Meritorious Unit Citation, GS people got bonuses, we got a ribbon for doing the same job. Causes some animosity in the ranks. Oh well we volunteered
I trust things have changed since.
Wecome to the cove, hope you find assistance. Believe me Randy has not only figured out how to stop world hunger, he was also awarded a wing dinner with Lucinda for his posts here!!!!
