Volvo CSR`s
Has anyone had any experience with customer specific requirements from Volvo, which was bought by Ford. or Cummins Engines? I have talked to our contacts with these companys and and I get a blank stare(If you can get one of those over the phone). They tell me to look at the contract. It would be greatly appeciated if someone(anyone) could help in this matter.
Does this mean we use Ford CSR`s, since they were bought out.

I haven't had experience with Volvo, but I found a link that may (or may not) help on a Volvo standards site. http://www.tech.volvo.se/standard/en....html#20020118
There's a document called "Obligations for the supplier and purchaser." I couldn't open it because you need to have a username and password, but I assume as a Volvo supplier you should be able to get one.
Other than that, I can't help you out.

We supply direct to Volvo, but I wasn't aware of the site. We have always applied the Ford CSR's todate.
I've requested access, I'll let you know how I get on.

Access to standards was really easy, and the guy at Volvo was very helpfull and fast in replying.
The document called "Obligations for the supplier and purchaser." relates to who pays for what i.e. testing, transport etc.

Marc,
Can't find anything relating to CSR's on the site. I've sent them an email asking where/if they can be found.
I'll let you know what happens next.

Reply from the Volvo webmaster is that there is nothing on the site relating to CSR's, he suggested that Volvo purchasing "may" have their own document.

Generic CSR's
EVEN IF there is a document callled the "Company XYZ Customer Specific
Requirements", would recommend you do the following:
1. Get the purchase order used by the customer to award the job and read
all the fine print. Any of these may establish a customer specific requirement.
I haven't seen either Volvo or Cummins, so I can't comment specifically, though.
Many (maybe most) of the fine print items will be commercial or legal in
nature, but some may provide references to product or service requirements.
2. If the PO fine print mentions anything specific, get it. If it's vague,
write a letter to the buyer asking their policies, or stating your assumptions.
for example, there will probably be language stating that you need to comply
with their engineering specifications. You might state in your letter that you
plan to comply with all engineering specifications identified on the part print,
and ask the buyer to advise of any others that might apply. Lots of companies
have general specs that may apply to any drawing. even if now specified.
Your letter stating your assumptions constitutes a part of your contract!
3. After having done this, congratulate yourself for being in the minority
of companies who actually *know* what they're on the hook for.
Regards,
Brad
