I have my copy ordered from the aiag. In a nutshell the changes involve: reordering of PPAP requirements to align them with typical process flow, clarification of when submission is required, an appendix for heavy truck manufacturers, and most important for my purposes an appendix for bulk material suppliers. For more info, www.aiag.org - Link was: /pub/dcxfordgm.html gives a summary of the changes and ordering information

I just called AIAG and the lady I spoke with said the 3rd ed PPAP manual WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL I SEPT 99. So, if the 2nd ed bcomes obsolete 1 Sept. 99, and the new edition isn't available until 1 Sept. 99....what's wrong with this picture?

PPAP-3 . . . Production Part Approval Process (PPAP Third Edition)
This manual is a requirement for production parts suppliers to DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors. The Third Edition incorporates a number of revisions, which include:
Use of “auditable” language and a format consistent with QS-9000 Third Edition to support third party audit;
A reordering of the PPAP requirements aligned with the typical process flow;
Revision of “Preliminary Process Capability Requirements,” now called “Initial Process Studies,” to provide for the use of either Cpk or Ppk, depending on the amount and type of data available, consistent with the Statistical Process Control, SPC, reference manual;
Clarification of when customer notification and/or submission is required;
Incorporation of IASG Sanctioned Interpretations specific to PPAP;
Requirements for bulk material (see Bulk Material-Specific Appendix);
A Heavy Truck Manufacturer-Specific Appendix;
An enhanced glossary

You may continue to use the old PPAP manual, even though technically obsolete until the new one comes out (This info came from our consultant).

The new one is out and the old one will be obsolete Feb. 1, 20000. I am not all the way through it, but I am trouble finding anything that needs changed from what we already do in teh second edition unless we would be a bulk supplier. Am I missing something?
