First, good luck!!!
Now, what type of company are you going to, and how mature is their system? Any details?

gpainter - Congratulations !!!!
Now, surround yourself with the best quality people you can find, have them all join the Cove, and build the best quality department ever.
Tip: When you lean back in your executive easy chair, don't put your feet up on the desk. Those chairs tip over and that will ruin an otherwise great nap.

1. Surround yourself with the best personnel available
2. Listen when people try to talk to you
3. Give employees credit where credit is due
4. Don't try to fake 'em out, they'll probably catch you at it!
and yes, those chairs do tip over easily, so don't embarrass yourself by falling off!
Congratulations, and best wishes for continuing success!

Congratulations!!!
Well, working in a quality dept. before, you should know the rules of engagement.
Stand up for what you believe in - everyone in the Quality dept looks to the manager for defence and everyone else in the company looks to the quality manager for blame.
Always present the quality dept. as a united front. If you appear unbreakable they will not be able to divide and conquer! - keep all disputes behind closed doors.
Lastly - communication, communication, communication. I have seen so many managers treating information as power, holding back on important stuff so they can look like they are indispensible..they end up looking like twats and any CEO worth their salt sees through that.
Most of all go and have a ball...getting your own dept. is brilliant...you can try out all the things you have wanted to, you can stop saying 'I would not have done it like that.....'
You won't have time to even consider putting your feet up on your shiny new desk!!!

Congratulations! If you are looking for tips I have but four:
1) Stand for something.
2) Complete one recurring departmental quality task on time, always.
3) Say good morning to everyone.
4) Just put good parts in the box.

I don't really think you need much in the way of tips, but congratulations seem to be in order...
Hope you'll like your new job.
