New Server - 2003-12-29 - Report Problems HERE
I didn't make this public - I really didn't expect to do this until mid-January.
Bottom line is there were a number of problems with the Server Beach server which, as I understand it, would have required a server change anyway. I decided to get a server at Server Matrix - the 'small server' end of The Planet.
I've gone through all the testing I could alone. Hopefully all will go well.

You took us by surprise again... Anyway: this is probably as good a time as any to do a server switch, while the going is slow due to the holidays.
You seem to have made a sterling job. From what I've seen thus far, everything seems to be in prime condition.

It's just a 'plain Jane' FreeBSD server. No control panels, no frills. Hopefully the DNS servers are set up correctly.
This should be the last switch for a long time. So far, everything appears to be working - even the 'Archive' link for spiders. On the Beach server we never did get that to work and I was seeing hundreds of 404 errors every day because so many spiders had archived threads that way.
I do have 1 script I have to play with, and as soon as the DNS changes propagate I have to change the configs with the IP to Elsmar.com - but those are easy to do.
So far so good!

Looks okay to me so far. Noticed the Chat Room option is no longer there...cancelled due to lack of participation?

I can put them in here and probably will - just because it's easy. But I haven't seen anyone really use them so it wasn't a priority. I really planned to do this in early January but ended up finding an excellent server person who walked me through everything in 2 days - step by step. In contrast, setting up the last server took about 3 weeks - things wouldn't work, tried this, tried that, etc. And never did get everything working. So - in a way I wasn't prepared for what so far has been a fast, practically flawless server setup.
Right now I've kinda frozen things until the DNS changes propagate. I wasn't even going to give out the IP but then figured, what the heck.
If the DNS propagates and everything is set up correctly here, and mail starts coming in (I know it's sending mail) I'll be a happy person.
This appears to be a bit faster than the last server as well.

Bug? Hiccup? Mundane new feature?
In my User CP, for threads being replied to, before it used to show only the ones where I had participated AND when someone else had replied. Now it seems to be showing the ones I have particpated AND when I have replied...cluttering it up a bit.

Hmmmm. Nothing should have changed. i did rebuild the database, threads, forums, user records and such but that shouldn't have changed. I don't use that view much but I'll take a look. Maybe it's a setting.
A screen shot of what you're seeingmight help.
