Carl, Welcome! Glad to have you. We are all learning!

I do not have any of our actual diagrams on this computer, but here's the gist
of one for contract review.
You will have to imagine the diagram; just put the texts below in the
template. For illustration I will do only the first part of contract review;
there are secondary items you need to do if the customer accepts the quote.

Inputs:
Customer Req For Quotation
Customer Drawings and Specs
Customer Specific Requirements
Organization procedures/guidelines

Resources:
Sales representative
Estimator/Engineer
Feasibility Analysis Team
Data on similar jobs

Process:
Review details of RFQ, drawings, customer specific req'ts
Compare job to similar jobs and identify similarities & differences
Develop cost (process & tooling) estimate; timing
Obtain supplier quotations as needed
PRepare feasibility analysis (AIAG format)
Obtain clarifications as needed from customer
Submit quotation

Output:
Quotation (in customer prescribed format, including cost analysis, etc.)
Feasibility study

Method:

Your defined process instruction

Measurements:
Quotations on time
Quotations meeting customer standards
** quotation win rate (many people would not include this as a measurable but this is the key, is it not?)

Hope that helps.

Brad

Welcome, Carl! As you read through other posts, you'll see we have several active members from Australia, always full of good advice and questions.

Over time, a number of our Covers have become very proficient in designing and using Turtle Diagrams (a Phil Crosby creation, I believe.) If you are working with TS16949, I understand AIAG discusses Turtles in one of its manuals.

If you look up above the first post on a page, you'll see a navigation bar with the following buttons.

Click on the "search" button and click "advanced"

you'll see a dialog page where you can enter your search by key word.

I used "turtle diagram" as my key word, looking for individual posts and got 26 hits.
These two struck me as having clear attachments which lead you through a Turtle Diagram creation.
Turtle Diagram Illustrations
Turtle Diagram Examples

These are by no means the entire range of Turtle-related posts and attachments, just two which I got in less than 5 minutes.

It's important to stress there's no reason to reinvent the wheel each time you come across a perplexing situation. Odds are good someone else had a similar problem and has already shared his solution. That's why using the Search function here at the Cove is almost always a good first choice before posting a new inquiry about a Quality-related question.

Try the search function and see what you get, then write again and let us know how your search turns out.

I would suggest using the AIAG website. I attached a very basic layout for the diagram. Each block describes what should be discussed.
The turtle diagram is NOT a requirement. It is only an aid for defining the process. How and when you use it is up to you.

Default Here's an example

Here's one of ours. I know it is not a process required of TS, but it is one of our more complete ones at the moment. You should get the idea from it. All of our processes are in this format. Our registrar auditor was just here and he liked the format.

I hope it helps!
