Defense Industry QMS - What type of certifications/systems are required?
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right thread or not so please forgive me if it has to be moved.
My organization will be attempting to branch out into the defense industry soon. I woul like to be at least a few steps ahead of that one so I came to the experts. What type of certifications/systems are required by this industry?
I know of NADCAP which is the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program. Through PRI - (SAE)

for any information that you can offer.
I've attached a document that states that ISO 9001:2000 will be required.

I am a qualified defense contractor, so you can listen to me and not those sillyvillians
What you guys need to do is get registered thru the "Central Contracting Registry". During the process you will be required to specify what guides the quality aspects of your business and you will be given a choice (of which 1 is ISO 9001). Go through the complete process....Once registered you will be provided a CAGE code (individual identifier). All government contracts contain individual requirements for quality issues. If you look at the "requirements" you will see that they will fall in line with those of a QMS. There may be some "specific" contract requirements like having to operate in accordance with ISO 9001, a Mil-Q (going away) or something like that.
That's pretty much it....You should also register with "Pro-Net" with the SBA....never know what can happen there.

Randy is right on.....its generic QMS stuff....the specifics are in your performance specs for your product line. You need to find the correct supply center on line and download their product specific test methods (mil Stds) { DSCC is defense supply center at Columbus, and so on} The cage code people will help you with that or even your customer base.
