Please Help! Please HELP in ISO 9001 Implementation

Hello sir ,

I am very glad to find you in this. I have some query regarding the ISO 9001:2000. As per ISO i started working on Procedures, i will work on all ISO related topics, but i am not getting the implement part.

Let me clear you, there are certain things have to incorporate as per ISO requirements. But i am confused how to incorporate those things in my company. As per ISO it is very essentail to maintain records, but there is only department maintaining records, remaining departments not yet started. I already informed them about the ISO requirements, but they are showing resistance.

Please tell me how to train my people about ISO requirements.

Thanks & Regards
Yugender. K

You need top management to fully support your initiative. Only then, will you get cooperation.

Records are required but only where it states "see 4.2.4". Which department is currently maintaining records, Yugender? I do find it difficult to believe that only one department is keeping records.

Exactly! I am beginning to fear that Yugender does not have support from top management and, if that is truly the case, his time spent working on this project will be very frustrating and perhaps futile.

Everyone is assuming he wants a system that actually works.

If the objective is to get certified, he doesn't need any top management support!

An empty shell that fits the standard will get a plaque on the wall.

I am all for putting together a basic system that meets the criteria. Whether they actually use it or not is up to the top management.

Yugender has put up a couple of posts in the last week claiming he is "confused" and, yes, we have all been confused at some time about something in "quality".

But, it seems to me, Yugender, you need to get some better training yourself. I believe it was Govind who advised of services available in India. You should contact them. ON the same day, I advised on getting some books, as did others. Your management cannot expect you to do this project unless you are trained. Nothing is worse that the other employees being trained by a person themselves untrained.

I am not sure of the construction of your Quality Department but, if you have a Quality Manager or somesuch as your boss, that person ought not be delegating this stuff to you: he/ she should be first developing your skills. If, you have been nominated as the "Management Representative" for this effort (of developing the QMS), your management needs to go on an ISO 9K course or speak to other executives of companies who have gone through it. Then they will realise how unwise is their current policy of expecting you to be able to do this unaided, untrained and unguided.

The folk here on the Cove will undoubtedly try to give advice, but in the end, it will all return to the same few points" you need top management support; top management needs to provide the necessary resources for the program's development and whoever is delegated to coordiante the development of the QMS needs to be trained and experienced.

There are no short cuts - do not let anyone convince you otherwise.

Would that it were not so, but with the right set of clean documents and a registrar hungry for a fee, Carl is correct. We have seen instances where three and four person operations have managed to get registered. It may require the temporary hiring of a glib consultant who can escort the registrar's auditor and answer any questions in good "ISO-speak."

Yugender:

Almost everything has been said here , and I have no doubts that you are in one of the best places on the WEB to find a lot of experts, but I thing that so far you do not need a bunch of experts (later of course YES). You need first of all to define and ask yourself:
1.- Do I have the basic understanding of Quality/Business Systems?
2.- What do my Top Management want from me or the system?
a) To have a cold certificate on the wall?
b) To have an efficient/proper system to achieve continuous improvement, reduction of waste, customer satisfaction, increase in profit, etc?
c) Are they really aware about what do they want?

3.- Do I have any plans to have Top Management support? (and that support is not only $$$$, but time, attention, authority, etc.)
4.- Do I have any plans to have training in an urgent basis?

Finally, if you don't conquer the high level support ALL your efforts, time and money will probably go to the drainage.
These kind of projects have to be an INVESTMENT (with a future ROI) instead of a SPEND (with no ROI at all)

Good luck and if you need more help please let us know
