Hello MarkJoel and Welcome to the Cove!!!
Take a look at this thread, may answer some of your questions..
http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=1688
Many of the memebers of the Cove have electronic doc systems. When (and if) I ever get around to implementing mine, all documents will be in .pdf format located on our shared drive.
Many folks find that a "design your own" system using MS Word and Excel work better than any "canned" program.

RE: open source documentation systems
Would provide examples of any "design your own system using MS Word and Excel programs?"

Sorry MarkJoel,
Just saw your response today. I haven't done this, but maybe others have.
Can anyone help here?

All of our documentation is online, in a read only format (using word and excel), the only people that can make changes are the "owners" of the documents. It works GREAT! Gone are the countless copies of procedure manuals, that we had to double check all the time to ensure that they were the latest and greatest!

Mark,
Here is a thread I have often steered people toward. It relates to a Freeware Document Management System that we have been using for over two years. It is intranet based and we have NEVER found a fault with it.

I have also attached two in house books for users and administrators (in the linked thread) Hope you look into it.

Hi Teri,
FYI, these can still be changed even when set to "read only". We had fun with this a few years ago. If you want, post a file and see if we can bust it.
