Note that inventory is represented by the water level. It appears to protect the company from problems.

But we need to lower the level of inventory so that these problems might be identified and eliminated.

Some successful companies consider it a challenge to bring the level of inventory down constantly, thereby addressing and eliminating problems in their continuous improvement of operations.
