Dear Friend

i am so sorry for this topic but i am still thinking and hope your chance , i will be honest in my words and show all facts to help me

i was working For ISO 9001 in a food factory and i am graduated from science departement

i have not any experience in microbiology , but i am well in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

i get a course lead auditor for ISO 22000 and i do well in the exam i finish it with the highest score in the group

and i was reading in iso 22000

now there are a certification body call me to make an audit on behalf of them in my country

i hope to get this chance to increase my experience

i am afrid from some thing becaue i know may be i am not aware about microbilogy science

if i make the audit and because of my lowest expereince in food safety can i get any problem , if i make a mistake in the audit and the factory get ISO 22000 because i didn't mention this hazard in my report

as example

for chease factory
if i can't take care about fung and mold and other becteria in the product and their sepcification and range , because i am not aware about this

is this may be make a problem for me , if any hazard happen

also may be i didn't know that there a critical item and becteria in this product so i will not ask about it and make the report with out it

and in fact may be this type of becteria is exist and cause harmfull

If the certification body is interested in your competence as a ISO 22000 auditor that is great ! If you lack the expertise in a certain area of a possible audit, the certification body can send a specialist along with you, The specialist does not necessarily need to be an auditor... he/she would be there to aid you in areas which you may not be familiar (ex microbiology).

If this is your first audit with a certifying body, then you won´t be the Lead Auditor (I imagine... ). The responsibility of recommending them for certification will be the LA, not yours... you will only give your opinion based on the areas/processes that you audited.

I would talk to them...see if you are the sole auditor, what kind of company do they want you to audit, can they send a specialist if you lack a competence. But my gut feeling, yes accept the offer !

Hope this helped !

If the CB you are interviewing with is properly accredited for ISO 22000 certification, they must follow ISO 22003:2007 requirements in addition to ISO 17021.

ISO 22003 has many requirements associated with personnel competence. For example, it requires
7.2.4 Auditors
7.2.4.1 Education
The certification body shall ensure that auditors have the knowledge corresponding to a post-secondary education that includes general microbiology and general chemistry.
The certification body shall also ensure that auditors have the knowledge corresponding to a post-secondary education that includes courses in the food chain industry category in which they conduct FSMS audits.
EXAMPLES
a) For the food industry (Categories C, D, E, F, G and H in Table A.1): food microbiology, food processing fundamentals and food chemistry including food analysis.
b) For farming (plants) (Category B in Table A.1): crop production.
c) For farming (animals) (Categories A and F in Table A.1): animal production.
d) For packaging/food machine/engineering industry (Categories I to M in Table A.1): science/engineering courses related to the discipline.
Because the food sector is so diversified, auditor competence needs to be demonstrated for different sectors. E.g., if you are auditing a dairy product processing operation, the concerns would be different from a crop-growing farm.

You are correct in being concerned, if you want to make sure that your audits add value.
