IATF 16949 - Monitoring Suppliers for Premium Freight

Hi there,
in our organization we are tracking supplier premium freights as number of accidents / month.
For example, our scheduling agreements with suppliers state that supplier provides 1 delivery/week. He might be short of parts due to quality problems, natural disasters, whatsoever. Every extra delivery in this case is 1 premium freight.
Behind that, our logistic department has some more details about each accident. In case of supplier is responsible for transport we are not so concerned but when we are responsbile for transport and have to pick up parts more often than agreed, we are issuing Logistic Claim and all costs are directed towards supplier.
At the end, premium frieghts (number of accidents) is part of monthly supplier performance and if occurs, decreases the score accordingly.

Your #1 is irrelevant to the idea of monitoring supplier performance. Furthermore, #2 is not always due to poor performance by a supplier. Sometimes suppliers will expedite shipments in order to get their customer out of a bind. The key thing to monitor is when a supplier must use premium freight when something they've done (or not done) is the cause of it.
My organization tracks all premium freight (to customer and from supplier). Many of the causes of supplier premium freight are caused by our customers or issues with our internal manufacturing/ordering so although we track it and take action, it is not directly part of our supplier scoring model. The supplier scoring address on time performance instead. Does this meet the standard intent? We are struggling with our external auditors over this point. Although we have shown data that we track and react to supplier premium freight, they want it part of the scorecard calculation

Your supplier scorecard algorithm is none of their business insofar as tracking premium freight is concerned.
