| - | - | Hello Marc, I got a phone call today from Dave Wallace. Hadn't heard from a Tosebo Camper since 1967 or so and it came as a very pleasant surprise. He ask me to forward my current info to be included in your web page on Tosebo. Steve Rathford, wife Sue, Daughters Katie, Colleen, and Eileen. I was a camper from 60 to 66. Chattering Chipmunk, Babbling Brook, Chief Pontiac are a few of the alias's I assumed for 8 weeks every summer. CIT in 67. I know we are all much older now and you'll be getting lots of stories about camp life back then, but if you could please exclude me from ever hearing how Coach made the council fire lite with that special arrow from the sky I'd really appreciate it. Marc: My name is Greg Scherschel (Papoose Yellow Perch, Chief War Canoe). I was at Tosebo for about six years, 1958-63 or so. I am one of six boys from Bedford, IN, all of whom were at Tosebo at least one year as either camper, counselor or both. My oldest brother, Kent, was there our first year, as a counselor. My older brother, Steve, was a camper and counselor, as were my younger brother Mark and I. My other younger brothers, Mathew and Kim, were both campers but I don't think they worked as counselors. We were introduced to Tosebo, I think, by the Buckinghams. My dad was a doctor and knew Dr. Buckingham, who lived in Bloomington, IN, 25 miles north of Bedford. We were at camp at the same time as Steve and Roger and when Tom, Dick and Dave (if I remember the names right) were counselors. My brother Mark and I both were waterfront counselors with Steve Buck. I have kept some contact with camp over the years. I was a counselor for two summers, 1969 and 1970. My bride, Peggy, and I spent our honeymoon at the Lake Shore motel in Manistee and have made several trips back to the area over the years. A couple of times we have brought friends to paddle the Pine River and camp at Petersen's Bridge. Three years ago Peggy and I stayed in the Club House (then a B&B) while on a bike tour of the area. Two years ago we rented a cottage in Red Park for a week and got to walk along the shore of Portage Lake with my then-two-year-old grandson. Needless to say, we've always maintained a love for the area. Please put me on your site list so I can see what others remember about Camp. Ho for Toseboland! |

Attended TODD School in 52/53; was gymnastics
coach/counselor at TOSEBO and sailed Mackinack races representing the camp.
Van Stock was my roomate
at Todd & I heard he was killed diving into side of fathers swim pool at
Vero Beach. Only other guy I remember at school was Pancho Garza from around
Boston. Outside of Coach Roskie, other counselors at TOSEBO, discussed at length
but no one admited to knowing the 'secret'. I relish this time of my young
life.
