Scope: This procedure applies to all products manufactured by the company. Procedures: 1.0 Serial Numbering 1.1 The serial number is used in conjunction with the products model number for identification. Therefore no reference to product classifications are incorporated into the serial number. The serial number will be based upon the completion date of manufacture for the product and will use the Julian date series for serial number determination. Each day of the calendar year beginning with January 1st is assigned successive increments from 1 to 365. For example, May 26th is the 146th day of the year. The serial number is coded to prevent public disclosure of the company's production volumes or shelf-life concerns of products shipped to customers. The serial number consist of eight (8) digits assigned as follows: Sequence 1st, 2nd 3rd, 4th, 5th 6th, 7th, 8th Digit X X X X X X X X Last Digits of Production Day of Year Daily Production Current Year Number For example, the 35th unit produced on May 26, 1990 would be represented by the following serial number - "90146035" 1.2 The serial number should be assigned on the date of initial completion of the product prior to inspection to assist in implementation of product recalls, etc.
