SAMPLE COMPANY Page 1 of 2 SOP # 08-5 Revision: 0 Prepared by: _ Effective Date: Approved by: _ Title: PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION & SAFETY HAZARD LABELS Policy: Engineering will assure that all products are labeled with adequate information to properly identify products and give warning statements to satisfy requirements by regulatory agencies, customers and internal departments such as shipping and customer service. Purpose: To outline the content and format requirements of identification and caution labels attached to products. Scope: This procedure applies to all products manufactured and sold by the Company. Procedures: 1.0 Identification Labels 1.1 Product Identification labels or tags will at a minimum contain the following information: - The company's trade or model name for the product. - The model number and serial number. - Complete company name and address. - Country of Origin (i.e., "Made in the USA"). - Patent Number(s) if applicable. - Independent Testing agencies certification (i.e., UL, CSA, etc.). For electromechanical products, the following additional information should be provided: - The product or common name. - Date of manufacture (Month and Year-Unabbreviated). - Electrical requirements including volts, hertz and amperes or watts. - Other pertinent electrical characteristics. PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION & SAFETY HAZARD LABELS Page 2 of 2 2.0 Safety Hazard Labels 2.1 The following guidelines and formats should be used for safety hazard labels: a. "CAUTION" labels should be used whenever there's a danger that misuse of the product could lead to minor injuries. Format - Black letters on Yellow background. b. "WARNING" labels should be used whenever there is a danger that injuries might be serious or fatal. Format - Black letters on Orange background. c. "DANGER" labels should be used for the most extreme situations whenever there is an imminent threat of serious injury. Format - White letters on Red background.
