Does anyone know of any sites where we can chat live on issues regarding ISO? If there isn't one, is it a possibility to make one here? I am kind of new to this so, please all comment are welcome.
Thanks.

I don't know for sure but the ISOGroup may have one. I sorta needed more disk space so I'm trying to get an ISP online which has cheapo disk storage space. Their site says they are set up for sites to provide a live chat setup for sites. I'll investigate further.

But - the big problem in this is that there aren't enough people interested and with the time to hang around 'chatting'. ISO9000 and QS9000 are big, but not like so many interests in irc (Internet Relay Chat). Remember - to chat others have to be there as well. I must admit I prefer a phone call to irc chat because I can say so much more faster than typing out stuff. In short - irc isn't terribly efficient use of time in my opinion.

Again, I'll follow up on it but don't get your hopes up.

Anyone else interested in a 'chat' area?

I would be interested if it was set up for a specific day / time. I don't want to "hang around" waiting for someone to show up, but if I know that others will be there, I would join in.

You can go to www.icq.com and download their CHAT communication software.
It is pretty neat dialog box software.

And if you want to test it, my ICQ number is 22883129.

Marc,

This might be an easy way to create a chat room, this software maintains an online status to receive and alert if any other member of your GROUP is online. This will be good to some people that donât mind receiving calls in to their PCs. This system has a privacy mode also.
Well is a new area that might be work wile exploring.

Let me know·.

Arturo Rosales.

I downloaded the software and it seems pretty simple. I'll try it this weekend.

Thanks for the recommendation. This may be an answer.

I have no idea. It seems that every time I tried sending someone a message they were online, but not available. I guess I have to go back and learn how to use this thing. It seems OK, but to me it's not any different from the AOL Instant Messanger or the Yahoo Pager and Private Message. Hope this will work for us meanwhile, I am still searching for chat. I think I've added everyone to my contact list, so if you're online don't be shy.

Under the ICQ preferences box, there is a check box that states "Automatically set 'away' when screen saver is activated." If this box is checked and the screen saver is on, the ICQ dialog will display the away box. I have mine de-selected

Reagrds,

Well, like everything, this is a new tool and we are still figuring out the best way to use it.

I know that the idea is to have a chat room available, but we know that not everybody has the time to be online all the time. At list on this software we can see who is ãavailableä and we can sent a message to start a dialog or ask a question. Now of course it will be great if we can all pup up into the conversation.

I have not spent too much time reading it but I will.

At list know we can sent a message and have and have a answer quick··

Somebody ask me what the difference from a call.. well I don pay nobody for the phone call.
What the difference from the e-mail·faster response..

Hope that we can have our own chat room soon.

What I really want is VOICE client/chat software. I HATE typing at people when voice is 100 times faster. Actually, I liked CU-See-Me with the video, but everyone has to have ISDN minimum to significantly participate.

All of you have great ideas and I am sure that if we all put our heads together we'll come up with the perfect plan. I think the idea is to make it easy and convinient for everyone involved. That is why I thought that a chat room would be easy. You know that sometimes when you're working on a project you don't have time to check a message board, etc. I for one am new to ISO and have a lot of questions. I think that people who are going thru the same thing are very helpful and most important you can see how others are dealing with the same issues which is extremely helpful because it may be something you haven't thought about.

Great Idea!. If you can pull this thing together, I really believe that the word would spread out fast and the response would be a lot stronger than you anticipate.

This is were I got stock· http://www.icq.com/icqchat/chatmaster.html
I started to create the chat room, I finished but is not working.. well·

See if anybody has better luck than I. Marc you can create a portal from your web site.

As Violetta stated correct, our combine knowledge is the key to become stronger.

I will continuo looking into identifying what was my mistake..

I'll look at their site again - it's overly complex and confusing - and try to figure it out.

On the other hand, it's easy to set up a 'chat' room on IRC. Does everyone (anyone?) know what IRC is?

ICQ number 7965759.
I tried to set up the chat room but as far as I can see this only works when I am on line.
I have a Java based Chat room at http://ramat-negev.org.il/~howarda/chat.htm .
This will work for all any time.
Please decide on times and this can be used by all all the best

Well, it appears interest has died down, but a friend and I are playing with NetMeeting. We have voice on one end ()he can hear me - says clear as a bell - but I can't hear him (he types at me in the 'chat window') - - connecting IP to IP. We're doing this now so maybe in a day or two we'll have netmeeting figured out. It looks reasonably promising. Now that I have a 'free' DOS machine I can run it connected when I'm at home and use it as a 'host'.

Anyone interested in NetMeeting?

Marc,
I'm not so sure that interest has died down, it's more like - what do we do now? ICQ is fine, but we still don't have an organized time to "meet".

I don't think the intrest has died down, what I do think is that we are going in different directions. We do have the use of a chat room available to us provided by Howard Atkins. Has anyone checked it out? Can we do it?
Mark! You are trying to find something special with voice and high technology, etc. I think that we just want to talk at least in the meantime. I don't like ICQ, it doesn't seem to be working properly for me. I have a feeling NET Meeting is going to be another in the same category.
Is anyone interested in using Howards chat room??? If you are please let me know what time is most convinient for you and I'll try to set it up.

Net meeting is a great tool. Use it alot. Especially like being able to share and edit files live so all can see whats going on immediately. But as always, its 'time',who is on when. When I am home (in the home office) I have it on...but lately I am never home !!!

I schedule my calls....and we all meet for a planned discussion. Works real well with multi site clients.

I use ICQ more for personal contacts than business....just happens that way, not planned.

Barb,
There is a link to Howard's chat room on 11/21/98.
Everytime I try to get in it though, this is the message that I get.

"Trying TCP connection to parachat.webpage.com:7779 ...
TCP Connection failed
Disconnected:
Could not connect to server parachat.webpage.com:7779
Sorry, network connection failed. Please try again later.
SORRY! Your FREE membership request could not be processed at this time,
- since we were unable to connect to the server. Please try again later."

I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or not.

OK folks - I'll check Howard's chat room later today or tonite - but - I just finished troubleshooting netmeeting with a friend. Obviously Barb is already set up.

First run netmeeting and set it up. Particularly the AUDIO options - see tools menu and options in the menu. You will see an 'audio' wizard. Use it. You should (for voice) see a bar graph when you speak.

DON'T log in by e-mail name or server. This is where ICQ comes in. You click on the person's name you want to call in the ICQ window (they must be online). A menu drops. Choose INFO and copy the IP number (first tab). Note that if the person is on a LAN or WAN an IP address may not appear in which case this doesn't work.

Go to netmeeting and click CALL button. In the ADDRESS box paste the IP. Leave CALL USING set to AUTOMATIC. Then click OK and it will call that IP.

A friend in Phoenix and I have been using it now for a couple of days and the sound is great! There is also a white board. There's a CHAT function (which is the same as ICQ chat).

When I'm in town and I'm near or at the computer I am leaving my Compaq online with ICQ running. If anyonme wants to try Netmeeting, get my IP number from ICQ and 'call' me.

barb - you use netmeeting - give us some clues and advice on using it!

Yes. With the involvement of many folks in this forum based Q&A, most will get there answers in a reasonable amount of time. Keeping ICQ open the whole while wreaks havoc for MIS here (system usage issues) and perhaps for others. Good idea, just a bit impractical.

I would like to re-generate some discussion in a live chat area for ISO/TQM. I think Jennifer had a good idea about setting it up for a particular time/day. I really think you guys would get a positive response (in fact, it might even surprise you).

I agree that talking is a more efficient way to communicate from a time standpoint, but written words are easier to remember (as long as you have a printer available), as well as to use for reference at a later date.
