Marc,

After I sent this e-mail to you, I got a stern warning from Bill Casti that I should not try to advertise on any of the e-mail discussion lists (also mentioning tar and feathers, the rack and others....). Therefore it is best that I do not post any message that may be considered advertising. Actually if you make an exception for me, then other companies will want to talk about their special promotions, etc, etc ...

On the other hand -- Free is Free!! Our corrective action software is used by AMD, Walt Disney World, Harris, Lucent, Duracell and others so we have a pretty decent product. I realize you can't endorse the product, but knowing how tight Quality budgets can be, I believe your members would want to know about it. If you feel it would be of interest to your members, please post a small message telling them about the free corrective action software at www.jkt9000.com

I posted this because I do not see advertisements as inherently evil. I was impressed that the company is offering a free module. Not a 'demo' which is not even a 'disabled' program file, but is a powerpoint, director or other 'movie'. If I want to try out software, I want to try out the program. I don't need a 'demo' which is a promo produced in a movie or other illustrative format. Let me see it run. Software is a lot like cars. The sales folks are obliged to present the upside and distract from the down sides. Sometimes this approaches fraud. So - these folks are offering a free module. I'm gonna try it out.

If you try it out, come back here and let us know what you think! Pro or con. I do agree - Free is free.

I don't give my powerpoint source files away free...

Comments from Cove 'regulars' are invited! (If you're not a regular (Contributor) you probably aren't interested in advertising issues, anyway.)

Folks, an old story. I had a 'pirate' bbs back in 1986 which was up until 1990. It was a 'pirate' bbs in the sense that I had programs people could download that were 'cracked'. No password or other protection necessary to run. Fully functional. I have bought a lot of software from 1986 through today - and I've been burned often. I still take the position of 'forced shareware'. That is, get a fully functional program to install and try. I sorta believe what you say it will do. But - let me see for myself. I took this attitude because I had bought enough software to know that, like used car sales folks, so often what they say and what is real is quite a stretch.

My credo is Buy Only What You Use. Yup - I use the MS office suite so I've bought and paid for 2 versions (including updates, as you well understand) - Mac and PeeCee. I don't like it - but I use it - so I pay for it.
