LINUX KERNEL UPGRADE FACES MORE DELAYS

Posted at May 4, 2000 03:03 PM

EXECUTIVES AT LINUX vendors Caldera Systems and Red Hat Thursday said they expect no ill effects from continuing delays in the shipment of an upgrade of the open-source operating system's kernel.

LINUX FITS IN WELL, BUT ADDS COSTS

Posted at May 5, 2000 01:01 PM

IN THIS ANALYSIS, I examined the business impact of integrating Smallco's network of PCs connected to a Red Hat Linux 6.2 server into Bigcorp, an existing enterprise environment. Smallco is a start-up company with a simple infrastructure.

I found it important to look at the cost issues involved. Were expensive third-party tools needed to make things work? Would the IT staff at Bigcorp need to make changes to the company's existing infrastructure?
