I would like responses to as many of the items as possible but I do realize there is data that some people will not want to post. The only thing I ask is that you do note your business type. (i.e. machining, forging, etc...)

Don't spend too much time compiling data, estimates are acceptable.

3. Square footage: approx 210,000
4. Number of employees: 150
5. Turnover: < 1 year approx. 7%; > 1 year approx. 0.5%
6. Types of major equipment: Mostly proprietary (designed & built in-house) Steel tube formers, corrugators, braiders, welding stands, etc.
7. Do you utilize an apprentice program: Not really - mostly OJT
8. Are you a private or public entity: Private
9. What are your shifts & work hours: 1 shift; semi-flextime, either 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 - 3:30 p.m. (for hourly - don't ask about us poor salaried slaves... )
10. Are you design capable: Yes
11. Number of Engineers: 5 (this doesn't count the number of people who THINK they are engineers... )
12. Are you CAD capable: Yes
13. What are your approximately yearly sales: $30 mil. (that is a rough approximation)
14. Are you a union facility: No
15. What is your average APQP/PR lead times: Don't know - don't track that data
16. Are you heat treat capable: We employ an external facility to do this when required
17. Do you advertise: Yes, but only within the market
18. Do you have safety and/or environmental concerns: Not really - we are implementing a new safety program and have a good environmental program in place
19. Do you use an internal CMM: Nope
20. Do you have a web site: Yes
21: Do you do your own trucking: No
22: Are you minority owned: Do Italians count as a minority? (No disparaging comments please - I truly don't know)

I am the quality management rep. But I sort of do a bit of everything here. Trying to get a health & safety program set up here as well as get a new computer system up and running. Neither is going very well. I am recently married (the first year is the hardest!!!) no bambinos and I play soccer and do lots of outdoorsy kind of stuff (ie camping, fishing). I am a volunteer fire fighter in my 'spare' time.

6: What types of major equipment do you use: multifunction calibrators, impedance bridge, variable phase standard, frequency standard, RF & microwave generators, measuring receiver, vector network analyzer, standard resistors, VOR consensus standard, oscilloscope calibrators, ice point cell, computer network, many more ...

7: Do you utilize an apprentice program: No, but all calibration technicians are experienced electronic technicians from elsewhere in the company.

8: Are you a private or public entity: a very tiny department of a major public company.

9: What are your shifts and work hours: Continual coverage from 06:00 to 22:00 (flex-time)

10: Are you design capable: No

11: Number of engineers: 1

12: Are you CAD capable: No

13: What are your approximate yearly sales: N/A

17: Do you advertise: No. We have a captive market - all corporate users of electronic MTE must send them to us for calibration.

18: Do you have safety and/or environmental concerns: Very few; addressed by corporate programs. No OJI's in over six years.

20: Do you have a web site: For internal use and communication inside the lab only. It is a "stealth" network, not connected to the corporate net.
