There is enough information about "lean production" on the net. However the links about "lean management" are very few and they are mostly book introduction or appendix. Do you have any detailed information about this topic?Do you know any resource where free information abou lean management is avaliable?
(Lean management is a new managerial trend. It is based on non-hierarchical structure in organizations. There are only teams and leaders.)

Hey guys,

"Lean management is a new managerial trend. It is based on non-hierarchical structure in organizations. There are only teams and leaders"

Sounds an alot like Empowerment to me. A flat managerial system with coaches and teammates. I saw a book for sale at a bookstore near my house with the title Lean Management. I didn't thumb through it, as I judged a book by its cover (turned off by my own experiences with thin staffed organizations). I guess I will take a look on my next visit (generally each weekend) and see if it is still there.

If it is just another name for the Empowerment philosophy, you might want to browse under empowerment. Otherwise, I am interested in finding out more about this and will see what I can learn about it to contribute ideas here for discussion.

Regards,

Kevin

It seems to me that "Lean Management" is part of the "Lean Thinking"approach. If so, the following sites give some good information on organisational structures.
Try: - www.lean.org www.ame.org (Association for manufacturing Excellence)

thanks alot for the links.

TPM doesnt require non-hierarchy. The teams are like quality teams in TQM. However lean management destroys the functional departments and brings a lean organization to entire company. Everyting should be thought as projects and commited by teams. Combining operations into a whole project provides focusing on the goals. TPM may be another team project for LM.

Don,

Interesting sites. Thanks for the links. I will browse them further as time permits.

To the group:

At a glance, it appears that Lean Management is a part of Lean Thinking. As such, I would say that Lean Thinking is the philosophy and Lean Management maybe a tool to deploy and disseminate this philosophy. The philosophy is based on a process-oriented approach opposed to a results-oriented approach (Western Management Philosophy). TPM is also associated with a process-oriented approach. As I have noticed, many of the Lean Thinking tools are very similar to those found in a TQM environment.

I would have to say that anyway you slice it, it has heavy Japanese connotations, which to me, suggests a better management philosophy and practice.

Regards,

Kevin
