Could someone please tell me how to control black spots. As a QC/NDT Supervisor this defect is driving me nuts not to mention my other plant inspectors. We make tubular products;cold rolled steel (4inch to 8inch)in various gauges.
Any info would be greatly appreciable.

I can't personally help you here. Maybe one of the others can. This sounds like it is pretty much process / product specific. Are you talking about black spots on x-rays?

No, not on an x-ray, I wish it was that simple. Black spots, sometimes called penetrators is a steel/process defect in the weld produced in ERW. A non-bonded area in the weld zone.
