From Elsmar Cove Quality Assurance and Business Standards Wiki

Rework - Activity or effort required to convert an otherwise unacceptable outcome of a process into an acceptable outcome. An action that returns the object back to drawing specifications.

Reworking is taking an out-of-spec product and running it through a non-standard process to bring it back into specification. Concurrent validation is required.
