Computer monitor setup - Setting up an LCD monitor on a PC

Does anyone have any good advice for setting up an LCD monitor on a PC? I have fiddled about with contrast, brightness, digital vibrance etc. but cannot seem to get the right balance.

I have Googled but most articles want to sell me an application to do it. I have also tried Adobe Gamma and whilst this improves things, its not the answer for me.

Colin, this is a bit of a dumb question- Have you loaded the proper drivers on your computer? I do know that can make/break the view.

Brad, no such thing as a dumb question with computers! Yes, I have the latest driver and have spent a bit of time today meddling with the settings. I have got it much better now but I remember years ago having a setup programme that allowed the user to set brightness and contrast etc.

A big factor in achieving a good picture with lcd is the connection. An analog connection with LCD does not work well ( did not for me ) so if you have a digital video out use that.

In addition to having the corrrect/latest video driver (for the video card, or onboard video), LCD monitors have a "native" resolution. If you use anything else, the output will be poor. For example, on my laptop it's 1280x800, and on my 15" desktop LCD it's 1024x768.

The picture quality is fine, its just the calibration that's the issue. I have it to somewhere near now but I thought it should be easier than it was.

It would have helped if you had said you were having issues with color calibration in the beginning :D. Sometimes it's an uphill battle with a low-quality LCD monitor. There is some information you might find helpful here.

I had the same issues as you until I changed the connection from analog to the digital.
