Question PPAP Requirements for Raw / Bulk Materials?

Hi Folks,

do you know, if there is an official Document existing which shows general requirements for Raw Material !?
For PPAP for finished Parts we usually sent Raw Material Certificate to our Customers, but what kind of Documents should remain in our Facilty?
We are searching for General Requirements for Granulate, Metal, Tape, Plating, Seals, etc....

Thanks for your quick response.
Best regards,
Kevin

In the PPAP handbook there is reference to Bulk Material PPAP which is what you mean I think.
In general for catalogue items a material certificate is enough especially if the material is called out on the print.

Your customer decides what a PPAP submission should contain. As Howard said, some of what you're referring to might fall under the Bulk Material requirements, but some might not. In the end, it all depends on what the customer requires. If you're not sure, ask the customer, and get it in writing.

Re: Official PPAP Requirements for Raw Materials?

Hello,

could anybody suggest me what is behind "special characteristics" in my case which is aliminium ingots?
Chemical composition is an obvious one but should we separate different element as a different characteristics?

Thanks in advance

Special characteristics are usually identified by customers. If you choose to identify your own, it depends on what your company considers "special," which usually means those characteristics which present the most risk, and thus must be subject to special process controls.

Thank for answering, it looks like I was explaining inaccurately.

In this case, I'm the customer as I look for an alloy.
Which way is better in appointning special characteristics:

1. Whole chemical specification (all elements) as one special characteristic
2. Or each element separately

I'm inclined more to (2) because some elements are more critical than other ones, some are not critical at all despite being mentioned in specification.
