Difference between ASQR (Aerospace Supplier Quality Requirements) and AS9100

Good Morning Again,

I have a second question not related to the first. Last week I was given a supplier questionnaire regarding our compliance with ASQR. We are ISO9001:2008 and AS9100C certified but not ASQR. Can anyone tell me the difference between ASQR and AS9100? Do you need to be certified to ASQR? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!

Re: Difference between ASQR and AS9100

The only ASQR I'm aware of is a set of company specific requirements for United Technologies Corporation or its subsidiaries (Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, etc.) which go beyond the AS9100 requirements. So, to do business with UTC companies, you'd have to satisfy both sets of requirements.

I hope this helps.

Yes, that is exactly who the supplier questionnaire is from. It references the as9100 standard with every clause but i dont know if you need to be certified to ASQR to be compliant. thank you for your post :D

It's not a certification, but in our case the additional requirements are built into our quality manual so we know we are meeting them. I'm sure UTC purposely aligned ASQR with AS9100. UTC represents the vast majority of our business in one form or another so that's why this approach was utilized.

Yes. Your internal audits must include an audit of ASQR requirements as well. The ASQR Checklist is used for this purpose. It also saves from having to update any other docs if you audit to the checklist. You can ask your supplier quality representative at UTAS for this. It is required to audit your QMS to ensure these customer specific requirements are also met. Good luck! I just completed this audit about a month or two ago and have found silly requirements such as annual eye exams for anyone that inspects parts. Must have had a hard time with blind inspectors at one point.... :)

The eye exam is an FAA requirements that must be flown down to suppliers but the good news is that you only need one good eye and that the color exam is a one time exam.

ASQR - specification that incorporate additional supplier quality requirements from the standard.

There is no certification to ASQR but you must meet everyone of the requirements. CAUTION: Read and meet the additional ASQR-XX requirements on page 8

Not just flowed down to everyone who inspects parts, but to calibration providers as well.

UTC/Sikorsky have some crazy requirements in their ASQR series documents. Read them twice, or three times, and beware.

I have work with UTC ASQR's for a number of years and don’t find them to be crazy. Most are driven regulatory requirements for flight hardware or manned spaceflight applications.

I worked for the Pratt & Whitney Group out of San Diego, CA and was a Supplier Quality Engineer.

The ASQR is added requirements, specific to UTC/P&W. Each Supplier needs to be Registered to AS9100 (if they manufacture aircraft components) and in compliance to ASQR. Process Suppliers can be waived on the requirements if they are NADCAP Registered. UTC/P&W/Sikorsky will perform audits to the ASQR requirements.

Be aware that P&W/UTC are now requiring UPPAP, similar to the Automotive PPAP but again specific to UTC/P&W.

Just some added information.
