AS9100 Rev. D Transition - Internal Audits & Gap Analysis Requirements

Hello,

Our Organization is currently working diligently on a gap analysis from AS9100 Rev. C to Rev. D and had a question about Internal audits. During our most recent surveillance audit in May 2017, we discussed the need with our registrar to have all internal audits to the new Rev. D requirements completed before the recertification in May of 2018. We are realigning our Quality Manual and beginning to create process Turtles detailing all key process inputs and outputs and obviously need to revise & update our internal audit QMS process checklists to capture all of the Rev. D requirements.
My question is whether or not the revised internal audits to Rev. D requirements will need to be completed before the Transition audit next May? My understanding is that if we have the Rev. C to Rev. D Gap analysis completed and have updated / revised procedures & our Quality manual to address the gaps we should be in compliance. Any thoughts and input would be greatly appreciate and thanks in advance for your support!

Best kind regards,

Kevin J. (kajota21721)

Are you asking if you have to have an internal audit done before next year or if the audit you do (not the QMS) has to be specifically rev'd to 2015? I might be oversimplifying it but if it's along the lines of the second question I think you are requiring more of yourself than the standard does.

Thanks for your reply!!! Yes, I'm simply trying to ascertain if we need to have our internal QMS key process audits completed to Rev. D requirements before our May 2018 Rev. D recertification audit or will the Gap audit evidence be sufficient? Our internal audits that we are currently performing are still to Rev. C and most likely will not revise them until the September / October of this year while not performing the actual re. D audits until the second half of 2018.

You will need evidence that you have audited all of the requirements of Rev D before the recertification audit. How you do that is up to you.

If you have evidence that you did a full system audit against Rev D, that would work. If you have evidence that you audited to all Rev C requirements and then audited the differences in Rev D, that would also work.

We are due for our AS9100D Transition Audit in Sept. and I just received the following email from our registrar.

As discussed on our call, I feel that if you conduct a round of Internal Audits to the old revision C and follow that up with a supplemental audit to the new revision D, that would satisfy the AS9100D 9.2.1 (a.1.) requirement. That is, as long as all requirements that are new to the rev D are covered by the supplemental audits.

I hope this helps

I didn't realize Rev D required Turtle diagrams, isn't the registrars auditor supposed to do those, or is this a change in 2016?
